Box of...
Commissioned by Sussex Partnership to work with service users and staff to create a series of digital works for permanent exhibition for the shared spaces of Caburn Ward (a women's mental health ward within Millview Hospital, Brighton and Hove.
The group were asked to think about “What makes you feel positive and strong” to create their own and collaborative boxes from a range of found objects and materials inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell (1903–1972).
Some workshops took place with service users on the ward and staff were invited to contribute ideas. The main workshops happened outside the ward with a group of women who have previously accessed the service.
Participants began to bring in many of their own personal, significant, potent and sometimes precious objects to make use of in their work. Over one hundred ‘boxes’ were made and the group worked together to curate the final selection.
