I’m so proud of The Wonder Club, which has been running for a year now. It’s free monthly workshops at Hove Museum of creativity for young people produced by Corridor and videoclub and led by artist Chahine Fellahi who I have had the pleasure of peer supporting in her workshop planning as well as collaborating on events and workshops for the larger Days of Wonder programme.

The Wonder Club is a creative programme designed with and for young people aged 13 to 18, offering an exploration of early filmmaking and experimental moving image techniques with artist Chahine Fellahi. Fuse analogue and digital, uncover the groundbreaking innovations of local filmmakers and rekindle the spirit of discovery, enchantment and innovation that marked the early days of cinema.

This is an exciting opportunity to experiment with techniques that led to contemporary filmmaking and contribute to exhibitions and events that will be taking place for the wider programme, Days of Wonder.

I enjoyed putting this reel together and reflecting on all the wonderful experimentation that has happened. Images in this reel include work made by past and present Wonder Club participants, with photographic documentation of workshops facilitated by the Wonder Club team: Chahine Fellahi, Louise Conway and Zoe Montgomery. Also included are images from workshops with guest artists @sapphire_goss and I.

On Friday evening I watched a brilliant and moving Greta Thunberg inspired community opera - UPRISING - at Glyndebourne, composed by Jonathan Dove with Libretto by April de Angelis.

This community opera has been developed over the last year or so and it was wonderful to see that so many the the young people performing in it also who took part a project I was involved a year or so ago (which had the goals of encouraging the young people to be artivists and sign up to audition to be in the opera) The project was a collaboration between Glyndebourne and the organisation The Human Hive directed by the wonderful Darren Abrahams and was facilitated by a fab creative team I was part of with Darren, director and animateur Freya Wynn Jones, musician Zangi, pianists Matt Fletcher and Joe Cummings, composer Lucy Armstrong and Glyndebourne’s fantastic L&E team under project manager Kate Simner.

In the programme for the opera pictured here it was great to see lots of references to the workshops (photos by Sarah Hickson) and background to how it all came about. It’s such an impressive undertaking with lots of joined up thinking and an appreciation of how much time it takes to build relationships and the L & E team at Glyndebourne are wonderful! Congratulations to all.

This Saturday is the first Royal Philharmonic Relaxed Performance that I have the pleasure of being commissioned to make video projections for.

This is a clip from of one of the animations I have made to accompany the orchestra performing Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns.

The Relaxed performances are inclusive and the RPO says:
“Imagine an orchestra concert that welcomes everyone – where fidgeting is fine, chill-out spaces are ready, and the musical joy knows no boundaries.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to a musical afternoon designed to delight all families and friends. Whether you have a wiggly toddler, a child with additional needs, a loved one with dementia, or simply want a wonderfully inclusive concert experience – this is your musical celebration.”

I really enjoyed working responsively to the music myself and took a sensory and tactile approach, thinking about texture, colour, movement and light, often using analogue methods such as handmade slides, painting and stop frame animation to create the videos. This project has inclusion at its heart and I’m proud to have had the opportunity to be part of it.
