The Light & The Load

The Light & The Load, a collaboration between Annis Joslin and Sarah Cole  is an alternative way of presenting the Messy Business video, made with women who are supported by Joining Hands Joining Hearts, a domestic abuse support charity in Kent and organically commissioned by People United.

The Light and the Load is an immersive installation that includes audio stories, provocative objects and additional material, responding to the context of the exhibition and potential for audience encounters.

The Light and the Load came Making Spaces residency at Fabrica Gallery Brighton, to reconfigure Messy Business in a physical context, with additional material (audio, objects, texts and drawings). Our aim was to generate new material, to deepen vour engagement with this subject and the ways that art work about violence can engage people to think about this aspect of their own lives and self-care.

Audiences were invited to see what has been developed in an open work in progress private view of the installation and artist talk.

Below are examples of recent testing of this way of showing The Light and the Load which is available for touring with an associated engagement programme/facilitated conversation, if you would like to talk to us about this please get in touch:
